What is the process for PRP?

Platelets are cells in our blood which carry factors that signal surrounding tissue to regenerate. Platelet rich plasma injections are done in our office.

This can lead to a natural healing of the patient's painful structures. There is no risk of rejection of the product since it is prepared from the patient's own blood. The injection is often done under ultrasound guidance to ensure proper location of the product. The whole process takes about a half hour and the doctors block off special time dedicated to it.

Is PRP covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans do not cover this procedure. Few insurance plans, such as worker's compensation, provide some coverage. Patients can elect to pay for the procedure which can range from $500-$1000 per injection.
