Covid Kindness

misc image

We have received many wonderful messages of support and caring from our patients in this unprecedented time. None of us have ever imagined a scenario such as this. But disasters and crises can also bring out the best in us. Now more than ever, in the middle of a pandemic, it’s crucial to remember this.

One example is the email below. Sue is a music teacher and talented seamstress and wants to help in any way she can. People from all over the world have come together and are helping their neighbor. In this time of tremendous uncertainity, we need each other more than ever. The coronavirus isn’t the only contagion – kindness, hope and charity are spreading too. Stay safe. Stay strong.

Acts of Kindness in Uncertain Times

Dear Dr. K,

I am reaching out to you today to ask a question concerning a specific way I might be able to help during the virus outbreak. I am hearing many folks say there is a shortest of surgical masks to protect our medical staff. And, many are suggesting people who sew make and donate them to local hospitals, clinics, etc. I am a seamstress. I realize cloth masks will not protect in the same way as the proscribed mask, however, I am also hearing medical personal are using hand sewn ones over the top of their more protective gear.

I am more than willing and able to sew masks if there is an actual need. Please, if you have a moment, perhaps you can offer direction for me on this topic. It would take no time at all for me to make a number of these masks, (the week before my knee replacement I made 50 walker totes and gave them to your surgical coordinator to give out to hip and knee patients), masks would be easy.

Please know, you and all of your staff and colleagues are in my thoughts as you work to help ameliorate this illness.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

Sue Miller
